On the morning of Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari departed London aboard a Nigerian Air Force jet, headed directly to his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. He was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, other senior federal officials, and members of the Buhari family
Upon arrival at Katsina International Airport, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to personally receive the remains. A brief military ceremony, replete with full state honors, will be held before the body is transferred to Daura for the Jana’iza (Islamic funeral prayer) and interment at Buhari’s private residence .
Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, speaking from London, stated the remains would leave by 6 a.m. GMT. They are slated to arrive in Katsina around noon (local time), with burial set for 2 p.m. on the same day
Governor Radda confirmed a public holiday and a seven-day national mourning period, during which all flags across federal and state levels, including embassies abroad, will fly at half-mast . Condolence registers have also been opened in federal ministries, agencies, Nigerian missions overseas, and the Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The federal delegation organizing the repatriation was led by Vice President Shettima, who coordinated closely with the Katsina state and Buhari’s family in London . This logistical effort followed Buhari’s passing on July 13, 2025, in a London clinic, after a prolonged illness
