In a shocking development from the United States, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a suburban Chicago police officer, accusing him of residing in the country unlawfully.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the officer, identified as Radule Bojovic, a native of Montenegro, allegedly overstayed his tourist visa, which expired in 2015.
Bojovic was reportedly apprehended during a targeted enforcement action in Illinois, part of ICE’s ongoing immigration operations. The arrest has raised questions about vetting processes within local law enforcement recruitment, given that Bojovic had only recently joined the Hanover Park Police Department.
In August, the department celebrated Bojovic’s graduation from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy, announcing that he had begun a 15-week field training program aimed at preparing him for full police duties in the community.
ICE officials have yet to confirm whether Bojovic will face deportation proceedings, while the Hanover Park Police Department has not issued an official statement on his employment status.
