The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a bold new membership drive, with the party targeting at least 14 million registered members nationwide by 2027 as part of a larger strategy to strengthen its political influence ahead of the general elections, ADC National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at a Southwest stakeholders’ meeting held at Kakanfo Inn on Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, Aregbesola said the party aims to attract Nigerians who feel dissatisfied with the current political landscape and are ready to champion a fresh political alternative.
“Our goal is to bring in Nigerians who are ready to work for genuine progress,” Aregbesola told party supporters, stressing that the membership target, while ambitious, is achievable with effective grassroots mobilisation, according to the ADC official.
He explained that the exercise is designed to build a broad base of committed members who share the party’s vision of restructuring Nigeria’s political order and fostering meaningful participation across the country.
Aregbesola also emphasised that the ADC’s growth strategy is not about personal attacks on rival parties but about offering Nigerians a service-driven political movement. “We are not fighting anyone… Our mission is to call people into service, from the zonal level to the states, local governments and wards,” he said.
Political analysts note that ADC’s membership push coincides with heightened political activity as key parties and coalitions reposition ahead of the 2027 polls. The party has previously instituted nationwide membership registration and mobilisation programmes, reflecting its broader drive to cultivate grassroots support.
Observers say reaching the 14-million-member mark would not only expand ADC’s national footprint but also potentially enhance its bargaining power as Nigeria’s political dynamics evolve in the run-up to the next general elections.
