Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly condemned the reported attack on the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Cross River State, describing the incident as an “assault on democracy.”
Reacting to the development, Obi expressed concern over the growing incidents of political intimidation and violence in the country, stressing that such actions threaten Nigeria’s democratic values and political freedom.
According to reports, unidentified individuals allegedly targeted the ADC secretariat in Cross River State, causing damage to property and raising fears among party members and supporters in the area.
In his reaction, Obi emphasized that democracy can only thrive in an environment where political parties and their supporters are allowed to operate freely without fear of harassment or attacks. He urged relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The former governor of Anambra State also called on security agencies to strengthen measures that would protect political institutions and uphold the rule of law across the country.
Obi noted that Nigeria’s democratic system must be safeguarded through respect for political plurality, tolerance, and peaceful engagement among parties with differing views.
