In a decisive action against police misconduct, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, has dismissed three officers for their involvement in an abduction and extortion scheme. The officers, found guilty of criminal conspiracy, have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution, along with their civilian accomplices.
The dismissed officers include:
Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi (Force No. 501356) – Area Command, Aba
Corporal James Daniel (Force No. 511844) – Department of Operations, Umuahia
Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka (Force No. 511853) – Eziama Division
Details of the Crime
According to police reports, the trio, in collaboration with two civilians, used a hired minibus to carry out an abduction along the Port Harcourt Expressway on January 29, 2025. Armed with an assault rifle, a Beretta pistol, and an electric baton, they intimidated their victims, forcing them to surrender large sums of money. They also demanded ransom payments from the victims’ families before eventually releasing them.
Their illegal activities were exposed when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abayi intercepted them. A swift investigation followed, leading to an Orderly Room Trial that confirmed their culpability. Consequently, they were dismissed from the force, and all police-issued gear in their possession was retrieved.
Commitment to Accountability
Condemning the actions of the dismissed officers, CP Danladi Isa reiterated the Abia State Police Command’s zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct. He assured residents that the force remains committed to upholding discipline, integrity, and public trust under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police.
With their dismissal finalized, the former officers and their civilian accomplices will now face legal prosecution. The Abia Police Command has vowed to ensure justice prevails while reinforcing its commitment to law and order in the state.
