Amid escalating violence in the Middle East, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that a single phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump could be the game-changer needed to de-escalate the conflict between Iran and Israel.
The remarks follow President Trump’s earlier statement urging Iran to engage diplomatically with Israel to prevent the conflict from spiraling further out of control. Trump also warned that the war could have “devastating consequences” for all involved.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi stressed the power the United States wields over Israeli policy:
“If President Trump is genuine about diplomacy and interested in stopping this war, next steps are consequential. Israel must halt its aggression, and absent a total cessation of military aggression against us, our responses will continue.”
“It takes one phone call from Washington to muzzle someone like Netanyahu. That may pave the way for a return to diplomacy.”
This statement directly challenges the U.S. to use its influence to restrain Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has continued to authorize aggressive military operations targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure.
Araghchi reiterated that Iran did not start the conflict and that the country is not interested in prolonging the bloodshed. However, he made it clear that Iran will not hesitate to defend itself in the face of continued Israeli aggression.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu has shown no signs of backing down. His government insists that military operations will persist until Iran’s nuclear program and ballistic missile capabilities are completely neutralized.
This raises further concern that without external diplomatic pressure—particularly from the United States—the situation could escalate into a full-scale regional war.
