The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has dismissed reports suggesting any tension between him and former Anambra State governor as well as 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Rumors had circulated that the monarch was displeased after Obi congratulated him on his installation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, referring to him as “my dear brother.” Critics, including Reno Omokri, Oriyomi Hamzat, and Lere Olayinka, argued that such an address was inappropriate when directed at a traditional ruler.
However, Oba Ladoja, in a phone conversation confirmed by Prof. Pius Abioje, debunked the claims, stressing that there was no animosity between him and Obi.
“No, who said that? Why should I be angry with Peter Obi calling me his brother and friend? Am I not his brother and friend?” the Olubadan said.
Peter Obi, while congratulating the monarch on his installation on September 26, 2025, clarified that his words were a mark of respect and goodwill.
The Olubadan’s remarks now put to rest speculations of a rift, reaffirming the cordial relationship between the respected monarch and the Labour Party leader.
