If You Know The Cost Of A Kilometre Of Road Construction, Your Head Will Burst 😳

In Nigeria today, the cost of road construction has skyrocketed beyond imagination. What used to cost around ₦10 million per kilometre just a few years ago has now ballooned to jaw-dropping figures that even experts hesitate to reveal.

According to a professional engineer who spoke on condition of anonymity, the current figures are so high that “you wouldn’t believe it if you heard the actual cost.”

The engineer lamented that the inflationary pressure currently ravaging the economy has affected every sector, making road construction one of the most expensive undertakings in Nigeria today.

“It will be very difficult to construct roads with this present amount as it is just too expensive to say the least. We are in a dire situation,” he said.

Analysts believe that the rising cost of materials such as bitumen, diesel, and cement — coupled with the naira’s continuous fall — have all contributed to the unprecedented surge in infrastructure costs.

With government budgets already overstretched and contractors demanding fair compensation, the dream of accessible, durable, and well-constructed roads in Nigeria seems to be drifting further out of reach.

As things stand, the question remains — how much longer can Nigeria afford to build?
