Traffic came to a sudden standstill on the Otedola Bridge axis of Lagos on Tuesday following a multiple-vehicle crash involving a truck loaded with tomatoes, Face2Face TV reports.
According to details published by Premium Times, the incident occurred when a heavy-duty truck conveying baskets of tomatoes lost control while approaching the bridge. The truck reportedly rammed into several vehicles, triggering panic among motorists and commuters on one of Lagos’ busiest routes.
Eyewitnesses said the impact was loud and chaotic, as crushed tomatoes spilled across the road, staining the asphalt red and further complicating traffic movement. Some drivers were seen abandoning their vehicles momentarily, while others struggled to navigate through the wreckage.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security agencies, arrived at the scene to manage the situation. Traffic officers worked to divert vehicles and clear the affected stretch of the road to prevent further accidents.
While the extent of injuries was not immediately confirmed, Premium Times reported that several vehicles sustained significant damage. Authorities were said to be assessing the cause of the crash, with preliminary observations pointing to possible brake failure or loss of control by the truck driver.
The Otedola Bridge has remained a known accident-prone area, especially for articulated vehicles, raising renewed concerns about road safety, vehicle maintenance, and enforcement of traffic regulations in Lagos.
