Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has launched a scathing criticism of the current Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, claiming that the Labour Party leader lacks the political experience needed to sustain power beyond one term.
Speaking during a recent political engagement, Kalu reportedly dismissed Otti’s political strength, insisting that governance goes beyond technocratic knowledge and requires deep-rooted political understanding, alliances, and grassroots control. According to the former governor, Alex Otti’s administration is allegedly disconnected from the political realities of Abia State.
Kalu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), argued that Otti’s emergence as governor was more of a protest vote than a product of solid political structure. He claimed that without a strong political base and loyal party machinery, retaining power in Nigerian politics is extremely difficult.
“He does not understand politics. Governance is not only about policies and media hype. Politics is about structure, loyalty, and people,” Kalu was quoted as saying. He further predicted that Governor Otti would struggle to secure a second term in office due to what he described as weak political calculations.
The senator also hinted that the APC and other major political players are already positioning themselves ahead of the next governorship election in Abia State, expressing confidence that Otti’s hold on power would be short-lived.
However, supporters of Governor Alex Otti have continued to praise his administration for ongoing reforms, infrastructural renewal, and efforts to sanitize the state’s finances, insisting that performance—not political intimidation—will determine the outcome of the next election.
