ormer Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has sparked fresh controversy with a blistering street-style attack on Nyesom Wike, accusing him of excessive alcohol spending while public needs suffer.
Speaking bluntly, Amaechi claimed that a person who allegedly supplies alcohol to Wike revealed that the former Rivers governor spends ₦50 million every week on alcohol alone. Amaechi broke it down in a way Nigerians could easily relate to.
“The primary schools we built cost ₦112 million. That means in two weeks, Wike has drunk one primary school,” Amaechi said.
He didn’t stop there.
Amaechi alleged that whenever Wike speaks publicly, it is not logic or policy talking, but alcohol.
“When Wike talks, it is alcohol that is talking. And he is shameless about it,” he added.
The former governor also referenced an incident where Wike openly told the world, on live television, that he was drinking a 40-year-old, very expensive whiskey early in the morning, describing it as a clear display of excess and misplaced priorities.
The remarks have since set social media on fire, with Nigerians divided. While some see Amaechi’s statement as a serious moral and leadership question, others describe it as political warfare taken to the extreme.
As expected, the comments have reopened debates about leadership lifestyle, accountability, and the sharp contrast between elite luxury and grassroots needs in Nigeria.
