Hope don rise for millions of Nigerian students as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced that registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence on January 26.
According to information made available by Punch News, the examination body disclosed that the registration exercise will cover candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions across the country.
JAMB advised candidates to begin preparations early by ensuring their National Identification Number (NIN) is ready, as it remains a compulsory requirement before registration can be completed. The board also warned candidates to register only at approved CBT centres, stressing that patronising roadside agents and cyber cafés could lead to errors, loss of money, or outright disqualification.
The board further emphasized that biometric capturing is mandatory, and any attempt to manipulate data, double registration, or exam malpractice will attract stiff penalties, including cancellation of results.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the early announcement, saying it gives candidates enough time to prepare properly and avoid the usual last-minute rush that often comes with UTME registration.
Parents and guardians have also been urged to guide their wards and ensure accurate information is provided during registration, as mistakes may be difficult to correct later.
