Former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has made a strong case for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, describing it as critical to Nigeria’s economic growth, democratic continuity, and political stability.
Speaking in an interview monitored by FaceToFace TV, Amosun said Tinubu’s leadership is laying long-term foundations that require time, patience, and national support to fully mature. According to him, cutting short the current administration’s reforms could slow down Nigeria’s progress and throw the polity into unnecessary uncertainty.
“Reforms Are Painful, But Necessary”
Amosun acknowledged that many Nigerians are feeling the heat of ongoing economic reforms but insisted the policies are not accidental or reckless.
“Every serious reform comes with initial pain. What matters is the destination, not just the discomfort along the road,” he said.
He noted that Tinubu inherited a fragile economy burdened by debt, fuel subsidy distortions, and foreign exchange challenges, stressing that the president chose the harder path of reform instead of short-term populism.
Political Stability Above Personal Interests
The former senator warned against constant power struggles and political experiments, saying Nigeria needs policy consistency rather than frequent leadership changes.
According to him, re-electing Tinubu would:

- Consolidate democratic institutions
Amosun argued that frequent leadership turnover often resets national progress, as new governments abandon existing frameworks for political reasons.

“This is not about individuals or parties; it’s about Nigeria. Stability is the soil where development grows,” he added.
