The Lagos State Government (LASG) has moved to address growing concerns over alleged demolition plans in Makoko, assuring residents that the focus of government intervention is urban renewal and community development, not displacement.
In response to public anxiety and widespread reactions, state officials clarified that the government is pursuing a $2 million redevelopment initiative aimed at transforming Makoko into a safer, more sustainable, and better-planned waterfront community. According to the state government, the initiative is designed to improve living conditions while preserving the social and cultural fabric of the historic settlement.
