Abia Lawmaker Raises Alarm After Gunmen Kill Two in Constituency, Steal Motorcycle
A member of the Abia State House of Assembly has raised serious concerns over rising insecurity after suspected gunmen reportedly killed two persons in his constituency and made away with a motorcycle.
The lawmaker, who described the incident as tragic and unacceptable, disclosed that the attack occurred when armed assailants stormed a community within the constituency, opening fire on residents before fleeing the scene with a stolen motorcycle.
According to reports from the area, the victims were caught off guard during the attack, which left the community in shock and fear. Residents said the assailants escaped before security operatives could arrive, further heightening anxiety among locals.
Reacting to the development, the legislator called on security agencies to urgently step up patrols and intelligence operations in the affected communities to prevent a recurrence. He also appealed to the state government to intervene swiftly by strengthening security presence and supporting residents who now live under constant threat.
The lawmaker lamented that repeated attacks in rural areas continue to disrupt livelihoods, force people indoors, and erode public confidence in safety, stressing that urgent action is needed to restore peace.
Community leaders have also appealed for calm while urging authorities to ensure the perpetrators are tracked down and brought to justice.
