Lassa fever is a viral hemorrhagic illness that is commonly transmitted to humans through exposure to food or household items contaminated by urine or droppings of infected rodents, particularly the multimammate rat. Health experts warn that the disease can also spread from person to person, especially through contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals.
