Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has unveiled the names of aspirants cleared and disqualified ahead of the party’s primaries for the 2027 general elections.
According to the released screening report, 33 aspirants successfully scaled through the screening process and were cleared to participate in the primaries, while 65 others failed to meet the requirements and were subsequently disqualified.
Among those affected are the 32 aspirants reportedly linked to the political camp of Siminalayi Fubara, all of whom were denied clearance for the exercise.
On the other hand, serving members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Nyesom Wike were successfully cleared by the screening committee.
In a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, aspirants who purchased the House of Assembly Expression of Interest and Nomination forms were directed to confirm their screening status at the party’s state secretariat located at No. 268B Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
Ikenga further disclosed that aspirants dissatisfied with the screening outcome have been advised to channel their appeals through the party secretariat.
He also announced that the appeal session has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, by 10 a.m. at the party secretariat.
Meanwhile, the screening committee highlighted several reasons for the disqualification of affected aspirants. These include nomination by party members who were not financially up to date in line with Article 9.3 of the party constitution, alleged inducement and attempted bribery of committee members, submission of unsigned or unsworn affidavits, inability to provide voter’s cards, failure to present party membership slips or cards, discrepancies in dates of birth, inability of nominators to prove payment of membership dues, irregularities in membership numbers, inconsistencies in submitted names and documents, inadequate number of nominators across wards, as well as invalid affidavits relating to NECO certificate disclosures.
