The Federal Government has issued a strong warning to contractors handling the Sokoto–Gusau–Zaria Highway, cautioning them against further delays and substandard work on the strategic road project.
Government officials, during an inspection visit to sections of the highway, expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work, stressing that the road is critical to economic activities, security movement, and the daily lives of communities across the North-West corridor.
According to the authorities, repeated delays not only inflate project costs but also expose road users to accidents, insecurity, and prolonged hardship. The government made it clear that contractors who fail to meet agreed timelines and quality standards risk facing sanctions, including possible termination of their contracts.
The Sokoto–Gusau–Zaria Highway serves as a major link connecting states and facilitating trade, agriculture, and transportation of goods. Residents and commuters have long complained about the poor condition of the road, blaming it for frequent breakdowns, travel delays, and safety concerns.
Officials reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure, noting that contractors must align with the administration’s push for timely and value-driven project execution.
