The National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has demanded a public retraction, an unreserved apology, and N50 billion in damages from Peter Obi over an alleged defamatory statement made during a podcast interview.
The demand was conveyed in a formal letter issued by Neplus Ultra Attorneys, signed by Anderson U. Asemota, Peter O. Asimegbe, and Stanley C. Eziefulle on behalf of Arabambi.
According to the legal team, the dispute arose from comments allegedly made by Obi during the interview, where he reportedly stated that Arabambi “does not have an address.”
Arabambi’s lawyers described the statement as false, malicious, and defamatory, arguing that it portrayed their client as a faceless individual without legitimacy, credibility, or standing in public life.
They further alleged that the interview was widely circulated across television stations and various digital platforms, exposing Arabambi to public ridicule and causing reputational harm.
“Our client has had a known residential and business address, maintains professional and political affiliations within Nigeria, and has never been a person whose whereabouts or identity were unknown,” the legal letter stated.
The legal representatives maintained that the publication damaged Arabambi’s reputation, dignity, and political image, subjecting him to embarrassment before members of the public.
As part of their demands, the lawyers requested that Peter Obi issue an unreserved public apology to be broadcast on national television, publish the apology on his verified social media platforms, and place full-page apology notices in selected national newspapers.
They also demanded the payment of N50 billion as compensation for the alleged injury to Arabambi’s reputation, dignity, political standing, and public image.
As of the time of filing this report, Peter Obi has not publicly responded to the allegations or the demands contained in the letter.
