The Executive members of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), Abia State Chapter, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to the General Manager of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Ven. Dr. Joshua Onyeike, at the commission’s headquarters in Umuahia.
The visit was aimed at familiarizing the association with the operations and mandate of the commission, while also exploring possible areas of collaboration between both institutions, especially in the area of information dissemination and public engagement.
Speaking during the engagement, the Vice Chairman of OMPAN, Comrade Chika Nwabueze, who led the delegation, applauded the leadership style and achievements of the ASOPADEC General Manager. He described his administration as impactful and people-oriented, noting that the association is interested in building a strong partnership that will ensure ASOPADEC’s programmes and projects receive wider visibility across digital and traditional media platforms.
He further emphasized that OMPAN, with its strong presence in the digital media space, is positioned to support effective communication of government projects and ensure accurate reporting of activities carried out by the commission. According to him, the association also looks forward to active participation in ASOPADEC’s public engagements and initiatives.
Nwabueze also used the opportunity to inform the General Manager about the association’s upcoming 10th anniversary celebration, expressing optimism that ASOPADEC would identify with and support the milestone event.
In his response, the General Manager of ASOPADEC, Ven. Dr. Joshua Onyeike, appreciated the leadership and members of OMPAN for the visit, describing it as timely and strategic. He noted that the commission has, over time, been faced with misinformation and negative narratives in the public space, and therefore welcomed the opportunity for partnership with credible media professionals.
Dr. Onyeike commended OMPAN for its proactive approach, stressing that the collaboration would help in projecting the true image of the commission and correcting misconceptions about its operations and impact.
He also outlined several key interventions carried out by ASOPADEC, including rural electrification projects, construction of classroom blocks, provision of healthcare facilities, and road development across oil-producing communities within the state.

The ASOPADEC boss further disclosed that since assuming office, his administration has embarked on internal reforms and infrastructural improvements within the commission. These include the refurbishment of office structures, upgrading of public facilities, and the acquisition of the land housing the commission’s headquarters, which was previously on lease.
He reaffirmed the commission’s readiness to sustain collaboration with OMPAN and assured the association of continued support in areas of mutual interest.
Also present at the meeting were the Special Assistant, Engr. Emeka Gberemako; the Social Welfare Officer, Mrs. Amarachi Isaac Nwachukwu; and members of the Commission’s Information Unit.
