NAFDAC Cracks Down on Fake Alcohol Syndicates in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified its enforcement operations in Lagos State, successfully dismantling several syndicates involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit alcoholic beverages.

According to the agency, the raid followed credible intelligence and surveillance activities that uncovered illegal manufacturing hubs where fake alcoholic drinks were being produced, packaged, and circulated into the market. Officials revealed that the syndicates were replicating popular beverage brands, using substandard and potentially harmful substances that pose serious health risks to unsuspecting consumers.

During the operation, NAFDAC officials seized large quantities of adulterated alcohol, packaging materials, fake labels, and equipment used in the illicit production process. Several suspects were also apprehended, with investigations currently underway to uncover the full extent of the network and its distribution channels.

The agency warned that the consumption of unregulated and counterfeit alcohol could lead to severe health complications, including organ damage, poisoning, and in extreme cases, death. It reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health by ensuring that all consumable products in circulation meet approved safety standards.

NAFDAC further called on residents and business owners to remain vigilant and report suspicious products or activities, emphasizing the importance of purchasing consumables only from verified and reputable sources.

The latest crackdown highlights the growing challenge of counterfeit goods in Nigeria’s market system and the urgent need for stricter compliance and public awareness. Authorities have assured that enforcement efforts will be sustained to eliminate fake product networks and protect consumers nationwide.
