The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has replaced several candidates previously nominated by the Kwankwasiyya faction in Kano State, citing an alleged violation of an existing power-sharing agreement between the two political blocs.
According to a report by Daily Post, the decision was contained in a document signed by the Kano State NDC Chairman, Hon. Hussaini Isah Mairiga. The party stated that the changes were necessary to uphold an earlier agreement governing the allocation of party positions and elective tickets.
Copies of the document were sent to the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the NDC North-West Zonal Chairman.
Under the revised arrangement, the party approved Barr. Isma’il Idris Sani for Kumbotso Federal Constituency, Nasiru Ali Ahmed for Nassarawa Federal Constituency, Kabiru Ishaq Sa’id for Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Barr. Dayyabu Jamilu Ibrahim for Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency, Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar for Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Bashir Bango for Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency, and Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mairigar Fata for Gwale Federal Constituency.
The party also announced adjustments to State House of Assembly tickets in Dala, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo, and Dawakin Kudu constituencies.
According to the NDC, there was a standing agreement that elective positions and party offices would be shared on a 60:40 basis, with the Kwankwasiyya bloc receiving 60 percent of the positions while the original party structure retained the remaining 40 percent.
The party maintained that the latest changes were made to ensure compliance with the agreement and preserve internal harmony within the party.
The development is expected to spark reactions within Kano’s political landscape, particularly among supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement, as stakeholders await an official response from its leadership regarding the decision.
