Fear has once again taken over parts of Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State following a renewed terrorist attack that left at least four people dead and no fewer than 12 residents abducted.
According to reports monitored by FaceToFace TV, the attackers stormed several rural communities in the area, shooting sporadically and causing panic as residents fled for safety. The assailants reportedly arrived in large numbers, moving from house to house before escaping with their captives.
Communities Under Siege
Eyewitnesses said the attack happened in the late hours, catching villagers unprepared. Victims included farmers and residents who were unable to escape before the terrorists struck.
“They came with guns, shooting and shouting. People ran into the bush, but some were caught,” a local source revealed.
The gunmen reportedly killed four people on the spot, while others sustained injuries during the chaos.
Abductions on the Rise
The abduction of at least 12 people has heightened fears among locals, with families now living in anxiety over the fate of their loved ones. Such kidnappings are often followed by ransom demands, worsening the humanitarian burden on already struggling communities.
Security Response
Security operatives were said to have been deployed to the affected areas after the attackers fled. However, residents lamented that help arrived late, calling for stronger and sustained security presence to prevent future attacks.
Residents Cry Out
Community members urged both the state and federal governments to urgently step up action against terrorism and banditry, saying repeated attacks have disrupted farming activities, education, and daily life.
“We can no longer sleep with our two eyes closed. Something must be done,” a resident said.
The latest incident adds to the growing list of insecurity challenges facing Katsina State and other parts of the North-West.
