Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja following proceedings presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
The court approved El-Rufai’s release on bail in the sum of ₦100 million, with stringent conditions attached to the ruling. According to the court, the former governor must provide a guarantor who will also undertake a ₦100 million bond as security.
In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik stated that the surety must be a resident of either Maitama or Asokoro, two high-profile districts within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The guarantor is also expected to submit the original Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of a landed property to the court registry as part of the bail requirements.
The court further directed that the guarantor must be a serving federal government employee not below Grade Level 17, a condition viewed by legal observers as one intended to ensure credibility and accountability in the bail process. In addition, the surety is required to present proof of salary payments covering at least three months.
To strengthen the verification process, the court ordered that all financial documents submitted must be authenticated through an official letter issued by the guarantor’s bank manager operating within the court’s jurisdiction.
The development has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria’s political and legal circles, with many closely monitoring the ongoing proceedings involving the former governor, who remains one of the country’s most influential political figures.
