Former Governor of Abia State and serving Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Abia North, defeating his challenger, Philip Nto, with a commanding margin across the five local government areas in the district.
Results obtained from the primary election showed overwhelming support for Senator Kalu in Ohafia, Arochukwu, Bende, Isikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs, where the former governor recorded dominant performances in most of the wards.
In Ohafia Local Government Area, wards including Etiti, Agbo, Ameke, Agboji, Ohafor, and Okamu reportedly delivered massive votes in favour of Senator Kalu. Reports from several polling units indicated that his opponent, Philip Nto, recorded little or no votes in some locations.
The same pattern was witnessed in Arochukwu LGA, where Senator Kalu secured convincing victories across communities such as Ututu, Ikwun Ihechiowa, Ohafor Abam, Arochukwu Ward 1, and Arochukwu Ward 2, among others.
Further results from Bende, Isikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs also reflected Senator Kalu’s strong political influence and continued dominance across the Abia North Senatorial District.
Reacting after the exercise, APC stakeholders, party faithful, and supporters described the outcome as a clear demonstration of Senator Kalu’s grassroots appeal, political relevance, and enduring influence within the APC structure in Abia North.
Many supporters also noted that the result reflects the confidence party members still repose in the former governor ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The primary election attracted widespread attention from party leaders, political stakeholders, and supporters across the district, with observers viewing the outcome as a major boost for the APC as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of 2027.
