FCT Police Rescue Woman Allegedly Chained and Confined by Brother for Over One Year

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued a 36-year-old woman, Ms. Grace Aniekuoku, who was allegedly chained and unlawfully confined by her brother for more than one year and four months.

The shocking discovery was made following a distress report received by the police on June 12, 2026, prompting immediate intervention by law enforcement authorities.

Police Respond to Distress Call

Speaking on the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Mohammed Sanusi, revealed that the command received information alleging that Ms. Aniekuoku, an indigene of Anambra State, was being held under inhumane conditions by her brother, Mr. Chinedu Aniekuoku.

Following the report, detectives attached to the Katampe Division were deployed to investigate the allegations.

According to the police, upon arriving at the residence, the suspect allegedly became hostile and resisted officers’ efforts to gain access to the premises.

Victim Found in Deplorable Condition

Despite the resistance, police officers successfully gained entry into the room where the victim was being held.

The officers reportedly found Ms. Aniekuoku chained, severely emaciated, and lying in her own waste under extremely poor sanitary conditions.

The disturbing scene immediately prompted her rescue and transportation to a medical facility for urgent treatment and rehabilitation.

Suspect Arrested

Police confirmed that the suspect, Mr. Chinedu Aniekuoku, was arrested at the scene and remains in custody while investigations continue.

Authorities stated that he will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

Mystery Surrounding Victim’s Missing Son

Preliminary investigations have uncovered another troubling aspect of the case.

According to police findings, the suspect allegedly took away the victim’s son approximately two years ago, and the child’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Investigators suspect that the prolonged confinement of Ms. Aniekuoku may have been intended to prevent her from questioning or pursuing information regarding the disappearance of her child.

Search for Missing Child Underway

CP Sanusi disclosed that security agencies are actively working to locate and rescue the missing child while ensuring that the victim receives adequate medical care and psychological support.

The police commissioner assured the public that every effort would be made to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the case and bring anyone found culpable to justice.

Police Reaffirm Commitment to Protecting Vulnerable Persons

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and combating all forms of abuse, unlawful detention, and human rights violations.

The command also urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities, abuse cases, and other criminal acts to law enforcement authorities.

The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for greater vigilance against domestic abuse and unlawful confinement, as many Nigerians express concern over the conditions under which the victim was allegedly forced to live for more than a year.
