The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has dismissed claims that it expelled Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe from the party, insisting that the lawmaker voluntarily resigned his membership.
In a statement issued by party officials in Abia State, APGA clarified that the senator representing Abia South Senatorial District was not removed or forced out of the party as widely speculated in some quarters. Instead, the party maintained that Abaribe personally decided to step down from his membership.
The clarification came amid growing discussions and reports suggesting that the party leadership had taken disciplinary action against the outspoken senator. However, APGA leaders emphasized that such claims were inaccurate and did not reflect the actual situation.
According to the party, Abaribe officially communicated his decision to resign from APGA through the appropriate channels, thereby ending his affiliation with the political party. Party officials stated that the process followed due procedure as outlined in the party’s constitution.
The Abia APGA leadership further noted that the party holds no grievances against the senator and respects his decision to pursue his political journey outside the platform of APGA.
Senator Abaribe, a prominent political figure in Abia State and the South-East region, has long been associated with APGA and has played notable roles in the state’s political landscape. His exit from the party has sparked reactions among political observers and supporters across the region.
Despite the development, APGA leaders in the state reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the party’s structure and maintaining unity among remaining members as preparations continue for future political activities.
Political analysts believe the senator’s departure could reshape alliances within Abia State politics ahead of upcoming political contests.
