Media entrepreneur and politician Dele Momodu has stirred fresh political debate after claiming that Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, appears to be positioning himself to “contest against himself” in the nation’s political space.
Momodu made the remark while reflecting on the political developments that led to Tinubu’s emergence as Nigeria’s president. According to him, former President Muhammadu Buhari played a decisive role in Tinubu’s eventual victory during the 2023 presidential election.
The Ovation Magazine publisher suggested that the political circumstances surrounding the election placed Tinubu in a position where he is now competing largely against the expectations created by his own administration.
Momodu argued that Buhari’s influence and political backing were significant factors that paved the way for Tinubu to secure the presidency. He noted that the support from Buhari and the ruling political structure at the time helped consolidate Tinubu’s chances at the polls.
The veteran journalist further expressed concern about the direction of governance in the country, emphasizing that Nigerians are increasingly focused on the performance of the current administration. According to him, the challenges facing the country require leadership that can meet the high expectations of citizens.
His comments have since sparked discussions among political observers and supporters of different parties, many of whom have shared differing opinions on the role played by Buhari in the emergence of the current government.
