Asaba, Delta State — Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) Victor O. Ochei (Esq), has officially announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing to an end a decade-long political journey within the party.
In a heartfelt exit statement addressed to his political associates, supporters, friends, and the people of Delta State, Ochei revealed that the decision followed extensive consultations and deep personal reflection.
According to him, he joined the APC in 2016 with genuine conviction and a strong belief in the party’s vision and future. Over the years, he devoted himself to strengthening the party’s structures, expanding its grassroots presence, mobilizing support, and contributing significantly to its growth across Delta State and beyond.
Reflecting on his political journey, Ochei stated that he played an active role in building the party’s relevance and visibility while promoting leadership, service, grassroots development, and democratic participation.
“We nurtured relationships, built bridges across divides, encouraged participation among the youth and women, and contributed meaningfully to democratic growth and political engagement within our state and beyond,” he stated.
The former lawmaker emphasized that his decision to leave the APC was not driven by bitterness or personal grievances. Rather, he explained that it was inspired by his belief that leadership and political institutions must continually evolve to reflect fairness, inclusiveness, mutual respect, and the aspirations of the people.
“Growth remains a constant necessity in every institution, political movement, and human endeavour. It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” Ochei explained.
While expressing gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, members, and supporters who stood by him throughout his years in the APC, he described their friendship, loyalty, and trust as invaluable.
As he embarks on the next phase of his political career, Ochei assured his supporters that he remains committed to public service and the pursuit of progress for the people.
He also urged his followers and political associates to remain peaceful, focused, and dedicated to the democratic ideals that unite them.
Concluding his statement with optimism and renewed determination, Ochei prayed for continued peace, unity, and development in Delta State and Nigeria.
